This section is mostly for Metal Pre-fabricated units, and perhaps some inserts, that have Refractory panels inside that protect the metal behind it from warping.

These panels are made from refractory mortar, so they expand and contract from the heat. It is important that you don’t poke these walls hard, and you don’t throw your wood in your fireplace, but set it down gently.

You want to prevent a crack from getting too wide or deep, revealing the metal wall behind it. If you have a crack you’re concerned about, give us a call, and have us come inspect your fireplace!
